Jonathan is the Director of Research for Keele University's School of Allied Health Professionals and is Professor of Physiotherapy, in the Keele School of Medicine.

Jonathan’s research is focussed on improving the assessment and management of musculoskeletal (MSK) pain, particularly in primary care where it is mostly treated. He is known for his research to  develop and test the STarT Back and STarT MSK risk stratification tools through large multi-centre clinical trials.

Jonathan is also leading the eHealth MSK research group at Keele and is involved in a number of high profile digital intervention trials in primary care.
